Signal restoration through deconvolution applied to deep mantle seismic probes

چکیده
In [1] we present a method of signal restoration to improve the signal to noise ratio, sharpen seismic arrival onset, and act as an empirical source deconvolution of specific seismic arrivals. The method is used on the shear wave time window containing SKS and S, whereby using a Gaussian PSF produces more impulsive, narrower, signals in the wave train. The resulting restored time series facilitates more accurate and objective relative travel time estimation of the individual seismic arrivals. Clean and sharp reconstructions are obtained with real data, even for signals with relatively high noise content. Reconstructed signals are simpler, more impulsive, and narrower, which allows highlighting of some details of arrivals that are not readily apparent in raw waveforms.

Seismic Signal Deconvolution Using a Maximum Posterior Mode Algorithm and a Gibbs Sampler
In this paper we introduce a multichannel blind deconvolution algorithm for the restoration of two-dimensional (2D) seismic data. This algorithm is based on a 2D reflectivity prior model, which takes into account the spatial dependency between neighboring traces. Each reflectivity column is estimated from the corresponding observed trace using the estimate of the preceding reflectivity column a...

متن کاملUsing a novel method for random noise reduction of seismic records
Random or incoherent noise is an important type of seismic noise, which can seriously affect the quality of the data. Therefore, decreasing the level of this category of noises is necessary for increasing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of seismic records. Random noises and other events overlap each other in time domain, which makes it difficult to attenuate them from seismic records. In this r...

As part of a joint Sino-U.S. research project to study the deep structure of the Tibetan plateau, 11 broadband digital seismic recorders were deployed on the plateau for one year of passive seismic recording. In this report we use teleseimic P waveforms to study the seismic velocity structure of crust and upper mantle under three stations by receiver function inversion. The receiver function is...

The l1/l2 ratio regularization function has shown good performance for retrieving sparse signals in a number of recent works, in the context of blind deconvolution. Indeed, it benefits from a scale invariance property much desirable in the blind context. However, the l1/l2 function raises some difficulties when solving the nonconvex and nonsmooth minimization problems resulting from the use of ...
